If you also value your audio quality, you may find yourself at an impasse. Whatever your living arrangement, the odds are that you value the space you have, and you want to make the most of it. The privacy issues alone are enough to have you burning down your tiny home and reverting to camping for the sense of space. Most Americans couldn't imagine occupying less than 500 square feet on their own, let alone with a spouse and two kids. In their recent floor plans, IKEA has touted the improbable ergonomic wonder of squeezing a family of four into a 600-square-foot living space. Nowhere is this more evident than in those hallowed halls of IKEA, the hugely popular Swedish furniture outlet. In other words, "bigger is better" no longer holds sway over the land. It was only a matter of time before people began to question the American aesthetic paradigm that directly correlates size with quality. Bass production as well as medium and high frequencies sound detailed and natural, which allows virtually any type of music to shine, from jazz or classical to guitar-heavy rock. The Klipsch RP-280F, one of our new additions, seems to satisfy seasoned audiophiles and casual music enthusiasts alike. They’re a bit large in size, but if you have the space, reports suggest they make a welcome addition to a home theater system. As a result, we downgraded this item a couple spots.Ĭonversely, we upgraded the Onkyo Reflexes, which is a nice value for a pair of energetic towers that can admirably handle sound from across the audio spectrum. We also noted that while the Klipsch R-24F has a refined look and produces a clean, natural sound, it lacks the ability to generate powerful bass. Two items - the JBL Studio 280 and Fluance XL7F - were no longer available, so we took them off the list. Equally effective for live music recordings and home theater use, their directional baffles surround you in 3D sound, with the ceiling-facing drivers effectively bouncing it around the room for a truly immersive sonic experience. They are also among the more attractive models, with their two-tone contrasting face and sides.įinally, we included the Focal Chora 826-D, which bring a little more international flavor to the ranking, as they are designed and manufactured in France. The Dali Oberon 5 deserved a spot on our list, as they are a compact solution as compared to most similar-spec options, however they project sound across a wide spectrum with surprising clarity and detail. Next, we added the Wharfedale EVO 4.4, which are making waves from across the Atlantic for their exceptional quality and high-tech features, such as their Air Motion Transformer tweeters, which are usually found on far more expensive models, as well as Kevlar bass drivers, which provide excellent sound on a large scale. These include new surrounds and rear suspension for their low-frequency drivers, completely remodeled crossovers that provide more accuracy in the bottom-end, and remodeled driver arrays to enhance the treble frequencies. In our latest update, we added more high-end options to add variance to our list, as true audiophiles and home theater enthusiasts often favor floor standing models over smaller satellite and bookshelf speaker options.įirstly, we replaced the KEF Q500 with the newer KEF Q550, which feature several updates to the popular previous-generation offering.

Turning first to the new version of Jup‑8 (shown above), the differences between V3 and V4 proved to be far more significant than I had expected. Even at that stage it was clear that this was going to be a big step forward, so I was delighted when I heard that it was going to make its debut in V Collection 8 as part of an improved Jup‑8 V4 and the new Jun‑6 V. Shortly after I reviewed Arturia’s OB‑Xa V (in SOS August 2020 issue) I received an email from the company’s engineers that described their new, ‘free‑running’ oscillator technology, as well as links to two prototypes that incorporated various implementations of this. This meant that you obtained a collection of different, but tonally static notes when you played chords, no matter how long you held them. Secondly, there was no drift once the offset was applied. Indeed, if the oscillators’ phases happened to be 180 degrees apart, any given note could sound an octave higher than played. Firstly, if the oscillators were tuned to the same pitch, each note’s tone could be significantly different from the previous and the next. If the synth in question used two oscillators per voice, the problems with this method were twofold. Introduced in the noughties, this was the company’s method of emulating the drift of analogue oscillators by applying a random offset to their initial phases when you played each note. Today, V8 adds four new instruments as well as two upgraded ones, plus a new version of Analog Lab, new sound libraries and further enhancements including macros, improved housekeeping and integrated tutorials.īefore looking at the instruments themselves, I would like to discuss something that, in my opinion, Arturia never got right in the past. In recent years, Arturia’s V Collection has grown into a substantial resource, with emulations of numerous monosynths, polysynths, samplers, pianos, organs and other keyboards, the original of any one of which (with the possible exception of the CZ1) would cost more than the whole collection. V Collection 8 introduces new instruments and completely reworks some old favourites. The compensation we receive for those placements affects how and where advertisers’ offers appear on the site. Since there's no better time to be clearing out your kitchen than the run up to the festive period, we've assembled a few words of advice from some professional organizers and declutterers so you can have tidy kitchen counters for prepping your Christmas dinner. 'As we look forward to the holiday season and the cooking and baking that comes along with it, now is the perfect time to clear off your countertops and create additional workspace,' says Julianna Poplin, owner of decluttering service, The Simplicity Habit. That said, it's quite likely you don't actually need to have all those items out on your countertop, and there are some clever kitchen organization solutions you can make use of to disguise those that you do. Want to warm up your minimalist kitchen design Try going with brown leather counter chairs against a white kitchen island. A white countertop completes that look, while a black countertop in a white kitchen provides a stark ribbon of contrast without. When most people think of minimalism, they think of pristinely glowing all-white design. Minimalist design prides itself on simplicity, functionality, and an abolishment of unnecessary clutter, explains Karen Miller, founder of the Miller Design Group. The two most common countertop colors for a minimalist kitchen are white and black. Don’t be afraid to leave countertops clear until you need them for food prep. Minimalists aim for built-in, compact appliances, to maintain a cleaner and more streamlined look. Keep your color palette understated and cohesive to reduce visual clutter. Sometimes, they seem totally unavoidable once daily essentials like the toaster and coffee caddy have found their place, you're soon playing a game of Tetris just to get your cutting board out when it comes to prepping meals. Find a place for all of your essentials, either neatly arranged behind closed doors or carefully displayed on open shelving. Order everything you need, from designer paint to modern & contemporary wallpaper to blinds and decorating supplies. If you need more, add 1-2 containers at a time instead of buying a bulk package of 20. Keep a variety of containers in different sizes: Adjust this according to your cooking habits. My local user account here does not show a direct purchase, but I think I must have done so. I can’t find a record of a paid purchase of Infuse Pro 6 but the version of 6 that remains very unambiguously identifies itself as Infuse Pro 6, not Infuse 6. My iOS purchase history shows an unpaid download and install in 2017… of Infuse 7! I believe the prior installed version was Infuse 6 Pro, since that is the version installed on my other primary iPad. In fact, if all SMB3 features are enabled on the server (specifically full packet encryption) you will substantially slower speeds compared to SMB2.Īs I note above, SMB3 is set as a server-side minimum as otherwise a cheap Android media player (nothing to do with the AppleTV or the issues here, a totally separate device used by our toddler daughter) attempts to connect via a broken version of SMB2 and fails.I recently restored an iPad Pro 9.7" from a fresh backup and to my INTENSE irritation rather than restoring the previously installed version of Infuse, Infuse 7 was installed. There is not a large benefit to SMB3 compared to SMB2 on a local network. On my end, since being installed, Infuse has always only been left on auto or with SMB3 specifically set in the advanced connection dialogue. I’m not 100% sure what you’re saying, but if you mean that the logs show Infuse is specifically trying to use SMB2, this is a clear bug. It also looks like you may have switched the SMB version in Infuse to SMB2, and that results in a ‘SMB2 dialect not supported’ which is expected if the minimum version on the server is set to SMB3. I can uninstall it and test tonight if you feel this is likely to be an issue. Yes, as above, VLC is indeed installed on the AppleTV. I’m not sure if this is still the case, but it’s possible this may be playing a role if you have it installed on the same device. There are some errors in your logs stating the ‘TXXXXg.local’ server cannot be found on the network, so this may be related to a network issue.Īs above, TXXXXg.local would be the media server Teabag, and yes, there certainly are problems with Infuse streaming over our network - this is what I’m trying to get help with However, I’m hoping that you could help me narrow down what Infuse thinks the network issue might be, because nothing else on the network has any problem contacting the file server, no other app running on the AppleTV (VLC and MrMC tested) has issues, and Infuse itself does not have issues using another protocol.Īlso, in the past I recall some anecdotal reports of VLC’s SMB implementation causing issues for other apps. Thanks for the response James - uh, I may be misreading things, but I’m a little confused by some of it though? Samba config, in case anyone can see anything which might be a blocker to Infuse: Infuse can also see and connect to the DLNA share without issue - the problem is just with SMB. Nothing seems to change if I correctly specify workgroup, SMB protocol version etc under Infuse’s ‘Advanced’ options. I can’t seem to find any logs or similar which would point me in the direction of what might be the root cause. Sorry, Infuse encountered an error while trying to connect. Infuse can also see the SMB share, however when I provide login details and attempt to actually establish a connection it fails instantly with a generic unhelpful ‘Error’ message: An error occurred On the AppleTV we’re currently using VLC, which is able to see and access the SMB share as would be expected. AppleTV is not on a separate subnet and access attempts are entirely local, no VPN shenanigans or anything. Network backbone is a bunch of Ubiquiti gear, can provide details if deemed relevant. All devices also on the network (Win 11 box, Win 10 box, Ubuntu box, multiple Android phones) can see the SMB share and access it as would be expected. Infuse seems to tick most of my desired boxes, but I cannot get SMB shares working which is a major blocker.įile server (‘Teabag’) is a custom build running Debian hosting Samba and MiniDLNA shares.
